Black History Month

This resource for students aged 12 to 16 examines cultural identity and relationships on film as starting point for students to explore their own identity, how it is shaped and how they perceive themselves and others. It also explores a range of relationships including family and friendships, to consider how others influence them, and how they affect others through films ranging including Gone Too Far, Belle, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Girlhood.
This resource was originally created to support the BFI's Black Star blockbuster season. For more information, please visit www.bfi.org.uk/black-star. A range of educational resources on the theme are available at www.bfi.org.uk/education-research/education/black-star-education.
We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
