This resource is to help teachers to guide learners through the process of creating a film essay. A film essay presents an argument, explores a topic, problem or theme, or analyses an issue through the application of cinematic techniques in the creation of a structured film.
The film essay resource is for use with learners aged 11 and over with differentiated worksheets for differing ability levels. It is comprised of this teachers' notes document split up into the Think, Plan, Create, Exhibit and Evaluate process. There is an accompanying The Film Essay PowerPoint presentation and The Film Essay Toolkit with worksheets for young people to complete as they produce their film essays.
We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
