This resource is for use with young people aged 7 and over, to showcase and celebrate animation talent from across the African continent and beyond. Starting with the godfather of African animation, Moustapha Alassane, across Ethiopia, Senegal, South African and Ghana this resource shines a light on emerging animators and established studios. Your learners will watch a range of different animation styles from stop motion animation shorts through to computer-generated feature films before decoding key clips using the 3Cs and 3Ss of film and participating in a filmmaking activity inspired by each film. There are extension activities for each section as well that further extend young people's learning.
The accompanying Animating Africa PowerPoint presentation includes embedded clips to show to your group. There is an accompanying document with curriculum links for all nations and regions. This resource is suitable for use in a film club setting or in a classroom to support topic work.
This resource was produced in partnership with Africa in Motion (AiM), an annual African film festival, consisting of film screenings and complementary events. AiM brings the best of African cinema to Scotland, making it possible for Scottish audiences to engage with African stories and industry professionals from the continent. AiM has established itself as a major annual event within the Scottish cultural calendar, whilst also maintaining an international profile as one of the leading African film platforms. The festival caters to a varied and diverse audience from all over Scotland, the UK and further afield. A core aspect of AiM's organisational work is its partnership development with various cultural and artistic networks and venues, with particular efforts made towards engaging the African diaspora community living in Scotland.

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
