Encanto: Recycle the Rhythm, created in partnership with Disney to celebrate the launch of Encanto, in cinemas Wednesday November 24, takes students aged 5-11 on an inspiring journey of creativity and teamwork through music, arts, PSHE and English and literacy education.

In Disney's Encanto, Mirabel - the only ordinary member of her extraordinary family - discovers that the magic surrounding their home is in danger, and that she might be her family's last hope. The story unfolds in the mountains of Colombia and features all-new songs by Emmy®, GRAMMY® and Tony Award® winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana, Hamilton).

Drawing on the adventures of Mirabel, this curriculum-linked learning programme will help pupils develop their vocabulary around music and composition and then challenge them to express their creativity and teamwork by creating an eco-orchestra and demonstrating their own unique rhythms and beats using an array of recyclable materials.

The complete two-lesson learning resource comes with a series of downloadable materials to support teaching and encourage further learning, including teacher notes, lesson plans, multi-media assets and activity sheets. The interactive PowerPoint Presentations include video tutorials from a professional musician who will guide learners to recreate simply rhythms and compose their own pieces inspired by music from Encanto.

The activities will culminate with an opportunity for students to share their compositions through performance and encourage them to reflect on how much progress they have made, highlighting that not all talents are given  - many are learned and developed over time.

These tasks do not require any specialist musical equipment, so these opportunities are open to all students and classrooms.

Updating our resources

We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.

What our educators say

"As an alternative provision for learners who are not in mainstream school we use your resources in a slightly different way as they generally find it hard to watch a full length film. They are, however fantastic. "
