Whether it is background music or the soundtrack to a life, music and image have always gone hand in hand to create stories on screen. From the earliest ‘silent movies' to the complex, multi-layered soundtracks we hear in films today, the study of music for the screen can provide fruitful lessons for in the classroom.

Music in the classroom is not only an essential part of the curriculum but can also bring a huge amount of joy to pupils. Our resources will help to get your learners excited about the importance of music on screen.

Below, you will find a collection of our most relevant music-focused films to stream with Into Film+, many of which come complete with film guides to help you raise discussions and delve further into the films' themes. You'll also find training to help educators use music in their teaching, along with a selection of news articles discussing the world of music in film.

Meanwhile, with our suite of music resources for both primary and secondary learners, pupils will listen closely to what they hear on screen and use those soundtracks as inspiration for varied outcomes. Using clips from some of our favourite films, including Matilda, Paddington and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, pupils will be inspired to write compositions, analyse music using a wide vocabulary and perform songs thinking about what makes performance expressive.
