In the year 2045, the real world has slipped into a dystopia and most people are living in slum like dwellings known as ‘stacks’. By way of escapism, they seek refuge in the virtual universe of the OASIS, a space dreamed up by eccentric genius James Halliday in which the only limits are your own imagination. Following his death, it is revealed that Halliday left a series of “Easter eggs”, promising total control of the OASIS to the person who could complete a three-part contest, largely based on Halliday’s encyclopedic love of popular culture. Teenager Wade and his group of friends known as the High Five set out on this treasure hunt, but discover that a sinister corporation is also on the quest, placing the future of the real and virtual worlds in jeopardy. A visually astounding, immersive action adventure from Steven Spielberg that both celebrates and critiques the modern obsession with nostalgia, adapted from the best-selling teen novel.
Moderate violence, horror, infrequent strong language.
