Kayla Day is a shy, awkward and introverted teenager trying her best to navigate the pitfalls of middle school whilst also cultivating an internet persona on YouTube and Snapchat. Although her online presence is confident and dynamic, she is still given the “Most Quiet” award at her school assembly whilst her single father struggles to connect with her. After unsuccessful attempts at flirting during a classmate’s pool party, Kayla is taken under the wing of a kind high school student Olivia and discovers that her teenage problems may have only just begun. An authentic, empathetic and relatable portrait of a girl on the cusp of maturity, 'Eighth Grade' is filled with shrewd observations on social media, growing up and overcoming anxiety.
