Synopsis

Femi is a young British boy of Nigerian descent who lives a happy life with his adopted mother and best friends in rural Lincolnshire. When his birth mother returns and decides to take him back to London, Femi struggles to adapt, torn between his mother’s Nigerian heritage and the culture of inner city living. As he grows up into a young man, the perils of gang violence, drugs and racial prejudice threaten to lead Femi down a dangerous path, forcing him to choose what kind of adult he wants to become. Blending social realism and poetic visuals, The Last Tree is a story about displacement, prejudice and social values, especially regarding young black men in contemporary Britain.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
