Synopsis

Zak, a 22 year old man with Down syndrome, lives in a care home in North Carolina where he is watched over closely by care worker Eleanor due to his numerous escape attempts. Desperate to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler and have some freedom of his own, Zak successfully breaks out of the care home and is reluctantly taken under the wing of Tyler, a backwoods crab-fisherman who is grieving the death of his brother. Pursued by the worried Eleanor, the two new companions set out to find a famous wrestling school and, through their interactions, begin to change each other’s lives for the better. Tender and funny in equal measure, The Peanut Butter Falcon is a story of friendship and independence, buoyed by an incredible debut performance from Zack Gottsagen, who brings his own experience as a disabled actor to the role.

What our educators say

"Some of them saw a clip from Wakolda (The German Doctor) on TV recently and really wanted to watch it. So I thought I’d take a chance, not expecting them to watch the whole film but the majority were absolutely gripped. "
