In a British seaside town, Maud is a young care worker desperate to find her purpose in life. Having recently converted to Christianity, she is now a devout follower of the religion, often praying to God for guidance. Her latest patient is a cancer-ridden ex-dancer named Amanda who – much to Maud’s disapproval – continues to drink, take drugs and have sex, despite her illness. Maud soon comes to believe that she has been sent there for a reason – to save Amanda’s soul – and is willing to go to extreme lengths to do so. ‘Saint Maud’ is a well-crafted psychological horror, full of powerful imagery, that builds to a startling climax.
strong violence, sex, disturbing images, very strong language
