Synopsis

Whilst Soul has been previously available on Into Film+, we are currently unable to screen this film due to reasons related to licensing.

Joe Gardner is a middle-aged music teacher living in New York City who dreams of playing jazz full-time. One day he learns of an incredible opportunity to play in a band with a jazz legend and is given the chance to perform with them later that evening. Distracted by his excitement at this news, however, Joe promptly falls down a manhole cover and finds himself transported to a strange dimension known as the Great Beyond. Unwilling to die, he attempts to escape his fate and finds himself instead in the Great Before, the place where unborn souls are prepared for life by counsellors. Mistaken for a mentor, Joe is assigned a soul simply known as ‘22’, a cynical soul who is determined to avoid Earth. Together they attempt to find her spark and re-discover Joe’s in time for him to return to his body. ‘Soul’ is a beautiful animation from Pixar which explores what it means to find your purpose, featuring typically colourful characters and trademark humour.

What our educators say

"We are currently screening The Wizard of Oz, profound film that it is, and the last film Wall-E. It's been rewarding observing the KS1 6 year olds run the gamut of emotions from wonder to sadness to joy. "
