Synopsis

Rather than being a conventional life story of the writer of so many classic fairytales, Hans Christian Andersen is a fairytale itself. Danny Kaye stars as the poor shoemaker Andersen, whose gift for making up stories that entrance children eventually leads him to having one of those yarns - The Little Mermaid - turned into a ballet. Much of the story is told though dance, and through a series of unforgettable songs such as The Inch Worm and Wonderful Copenhagen.
