Into Film Clubs
Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
On Tuesday 5 October 2021, we were delighted to have a panel of Picture Editor experts from The Rough Assembly join us for our fourth live broadcast in partnership with Speakers for Schools.
It was free to attend, available for all UK secondary schools and was aimed specifically at KS3-5/S1-6. Check out more about the session below and listen out for news on our future Speakers for Schools guests!
Our guest speakers have worked on a broad spectrum within the industry, from film to TV, and across factual, entertainment, drama and comedy. We hope we managed to inspire students from all backgrounds to consider a career in editing.
TV and Film Editor, Christopher Chow
The session was led by an award-winning Film and TV Editor, Christopher Chow, whose latest work includes the best-selling interactive film, The Complex, BBC's Casualty and Sky's Little Darlings. He was joined by Bridgette Williams (TV Comedy Editor), Harfun Li (Television Editor), Ruth Antoine (1st Assistant Editor) and Juanita Apanari (Edit Assistant).
Each guest shared their experiences of working in film and TV editing roles, giving insight and top tips of how to get into the industry. This was followed by a Q&A session where students could send their questions over to the panel.
The event was a huge success, with 47 schools registering and 759 young people attending from across the UK.
English and Media Teacher at St Margaret's Academy, Louise Sedgewick had high praise for the insight that the event provided: "A broad range of experiences were discussed and it showed them a great variety of routes into the industry, as well as the different roles available even just within editing. It was also great to see such a diverse group of people who work in the industry."
The same can be said for students in attendance, with one reporting that "I learnt that there are lots of different jobs that can link well to media studies" and another even going as far as to say "I learnt that editing may be a field I'm interested in!"
Finally, Christopher Chow had this to say: "Thanks to Into Film and Speakers for Schools, we were given this fantastic opportunity to speak to so many students across the UK. Our guest speakers have worked on a broad spectrum within the industry, from film to TV, and across factual, entertainment, drama and comedy. They spoke passionately about their jobs and told fascinating stories of their journeys into the industry. We hope we managed to inspire students from all backgrounds to consider a career in editing."

We've been really inspired by the insight that our partnership events with Speakers for Schools have provided so far into some of the many exciting professions in the film industry. Make sure to also check out the other three events with director Sarah Gavron, Actor Kingsley Ben-Adir and a panel of post-production sound experts, respectively, as well as our recent work experience placement collaboration that shone a light on careers in Visual Effects (VFX).
