Into Film Clubs
Find out everything you need to know about starting an Into Film Club.
The summer holidays may have arrived - but there are still plenty of ways you can get involved with our activities. In fact, with the summer break, you may even have more time available to explore what we have to offer.
Our six sessions filmmaking package is the perfect activity for the holiday, providing a programme of filmmaking guidance to help you make a film in six accessible steps. The programme is designed for use by both educators and young people, so the budding young filmmakers in your club or classroom can dive in and begin creating on their own over the summer holidays.
With six sessions conveniently fitting the six week summer holiday, this can be an activity that runs throughout the holiday, or can be completed in one day if the creative juices are really flowing!
Why spend the summer making a film? Well we're glad you asked...
What better reason for dabbling in a little filmmaking this summer than getting a head-start on entering the 2019 Into Film Awards? Entries are open now until 14 December 2018, but the summer holiday provides the perfect opportunity to craft an Award-winning film.
As well as the young people's filmmaking categories, we're also looking for nominations for Into Film Club of the Year, Teacher of the Year and our Ones to Watch, so be sure to take a moment over the summer break to have a think about who you think deserves to be honoured, and get your nominations in.
The 6th annual Into Film Festival takes place from 7 - 23 November 2018, and bookings go live exclusively for Into Film Club leaders on Wednesday 5 September 2018, where leaders can enjoy 24 hours of priority booking before general bookings open for everyone else on Thursday 6 September.
Remember - all tickets are completely free, and things will get booked up quickly. Be first in line for Festival tickets with our online calendar reminder - click the link below to get a reminder added to your Outlook calendar.
The summer holiday also provides a fantastic opportunity to get to the cinema ahead of the Festival (and keep in mind that most cinemas are air-conditioned these days...) and get up to speed on what are likely to be some of the most popular films of the year among young people. Let's face it: what would a summer holiday be without a trip to the cinema (or three)?
In light of that, summer 2018 sees a number of animations hitting the big screen, from fun horror sequel Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation to Danish adventure The Giant Pear (both released 27 July), while superhero story Teen Titans Go! To the Movies and gentle French-Belgian animation The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales are both out on 3 August.
Families can also enjoy musical sequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! (20 July) and Disney's Christopher Robin (17 August), with Marvel's latest offering, Ant-Man and the Wasp (2 August), and young adult sci-fi adaptation The Darkest Minds (10 August) catering for lower secondary audiences.
Older teenagers may be more interested in cyber-horror sequel Unfriended: Dark Web (10 August), Spike Lee's provocative racial satire BlacKkKlansman (24 August), puppet parody The Happytime Murders or gay conversion therapy drama The Miseducation of Cameron Post (both 31 August).
We recently put together an updated Mental Wellbeing page, which houses all of our content that relates to the issue of improving and helping young people manage their mental health. With a wealth of articles, resources, film lists and other content, why not get up to speed on this vitally important area of focus ahead of the 2018/19 academic year.
If all that isn't enough for you, then why not encourage young people to get into pairs and put their ideas to paper, with a brand new film pitch competition that could see them awarded funding for their own short film!
We're teaming up with TriForce Short Film Festival to offer 16-19 year-olds the opportunity to pitch an idea fora 'microshort' film (2-5 minutes long), to be shot on a mobile phone.
Budding filmmakers are asked to write a one-page outline of their idea for a short film, with submissions open until 20 July 2018. For more details and to apply, head over to the TriForce website.
Four winning teams (to be comprised of two filmmakers each) will be selected to take part in a mobile phone filmmaking workshop and will receive £250 of production funding per team to complete their projects. They'll also be offered expert help from Into Film and TriForce Creative Network.
All four completed films will then be showcased at BAFTA at a public screening as part of the TriForce Short Film Festival on 1 December 2018, with the young filmmakers invited to attend and speak on a seminar panel about the filmmaking process.
