Holocaust Memorial Day
27 January
Into Film is pleased to be supported by Holocaust Memorial Day Trust to explore the 2017 Holocaust Memorial Day theme through the British feature film, Woman in Gold (2015). The assembly encourages students to consider the impact of the Holocaust on survivors and their families many years after the events of World War Two through the questions and issues raised by the story of Maria Altmann and her lawyer Randy Schoenberg, who campaigned for the restitution of Maria's family's artwork, stolen by the Nazis during their occupation of Austria. The resource contains stimulus questions, clips from the film and interviews with Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds and director Simon Curtis, with the full length interviews available to view below. The resource can be adapted for use in lessons or film club and contains suggestions for further activities.
We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
