How do Into Film Clubs work?

7–11
Short (1-4 activities)
This lesson focuses on the settings of myths and legends and how these remain important and reflective of the area, region or country in which they originate. Learners will be asked to reflect on the importance of setting in some films or stories they are already familiar with, and consider how the stories might change if the settings were different.
Using clips from Song of the Sea and interviews with the director and producer of the film, pupils are tasked with researching a myth or legend that originates from their local area, region or country.
They will be able to plan how they would create their own retelling of the story through moving image and narration using storyboarding.
As a filmmaking extension, pupils will have the opportunity to bring their plans to life in the creation of a short film retelling their chosen myth or legend in a filmmaking style of their choice.
We have developed a large catalogue of educational resources since launching in 2013, and some references and terminology will inevitably have dated as society and language evolves. We are aware of this and will be updating resources when our production schedule allows.
