From acclaimed French filmmaker Celine Sciamma, Tomboy is a beautifully understated, naturalistic drama about gender identity that’s both touching and gently humorous. It centres on 10-year-old Laure, whose family move to a new neighbourhood on the outskirts of Paris during the summer holidays. Laure soon makes friends with Lisa, a local girl who assumes that Laure is a boy. Instead of correcting them, Laure introduces themselves as Mickael and starts living a double-life, with Laure/Mikael's parents unaware of their secret, and their six-year-old sister persuaded to play along. Warm and gentle, Tomboy is a beguiling film with universal messages about fitting in and discovering who we are.
Contains mild violence and occasional natural nudity.
