Charley is a lonely 15 year-old boy who has spent the past year drifting around the American Northwest with his father. Arriving in Portland, Oregon, Charley takes a summer job as a stable boy at a local racetrack where he strikes up a bond with one of the older horses, Lean On Pete. When he discovers that the owners are planning to send the horse to slaughter, Charley takes drastic action to preserve the life of his friend. Travelling across the frontier, Charley finds a sympathetic ear with the horse, until tragedy causes him to begin a much more challenging, profound journey. Adapted from a popular novel, this is an expertly staged, deeply moving coming-of-age drama about a vulnerable boy learning more about the world and his country through the often desperate circumstances he finds himself in.
A dark and touching coming-of-age tale about a group of four boys who are forced to face harsh reality when they find the body of a missing boy.
