We are delighted to offer a new curated selection of TV recordings in partnership with ERA (the Educational Recording Agency) to educational institutions holding an ERA Licence through our free* streaming service, Into Film+. The new additions include British children's TV classics and factual series produced by the BBC, suitable for primary and secondary school audiences.
British Animation History: Wallace & Gromit
Ahead of the release of brand new feature-length film Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl this Christmas, we're offering a retrospective look at the adventures of the ingenious duo Wallace and Gromit spanning three decades. From the acclaimed British stop-motion studio Aardman Animations, these stories have become well-known for featuring elaborate gadgets and automated contraptions, offering young audiences an insight into design and technology and how they can go hilariously wrong. A Grand Day Out was the very first short film starring the eccentric inventor and his savvy beagle dog, released in 1989. A Close Shave was first broadcast in 1995 and introduces the character of Shaun the sheep, who went on to have his own successful spin-off series and films (also available on Into Film+). 2008 saw the return of Wallace and Gromit in A Matter of Loaf and Death, this time running a bakery and getting caught up in a murder mystery.
Enjoy these three new additions to our catalogue and re-discover Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers to complete the set! This 1993 short film is available both in English and Scottish Gaelic on Into Film+.
Celebrating Black Role Models
The second selection of new ERA Recordings were curated for schools ahead of Black History Month and are included in our Black History and Experiences programme on Into Film+. Black and Welsh is a short documentary that explores notions of identity, citizenship and race in Wales today. Through interviews with various intriguing individuals with a vast range of experiences and backgrounds, the film offers a snapshot of a multicultural nation. An accompanying film guide to encourage students to reflect on its main themes is available both in English and in Welsh.
Next, a collection of nine short films Our Black History Heroes offers an accessible introduction for young audiences to contemporary and historical individuals: pioneering nurse Mary Seacole, Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King, tennis player Serena Williams, mathematician Katherine Johnson, leader and revolutionary Malcolm X, long-distance runner Mo Farah, filmmaker Ava DuVernay, actor Chadwick Boseman, and abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Each two-minute film is presented by a young person who, with the help of some engaging animations, tells the story of their Black role model from the world of sport, politics and film.
To delve further into the works of three Black filmmakers, re-discover the BBC Arts Inside Cinema spotlights on Ryan Coogler, Jordan Peele and Ava DuVernay, already available on Into Film+ with an ERA Licence.
