Yorgos Lanthimos directs The Favourite, an awards-tipped period piece about Queen Anne's relationship with two women in the early 18th century. Though she occupies the throne in name, her ill health means that Queen Anne's close friend, Lady Sarah, effectively governs the country in her stead. With England at war with the French, Queen Anne's volatile temper and a new servant of aristocratic roots seeking to charm her way into the monarch's affections, a comedic power struggle ensues.
Uplifting documentary RBG is the first of two films released in the coming weeks to focus on the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (fictional biopic On the Basis of Sex follows on 8 February), a woman who rose through the legal ranks to become US Supreme Court Justice and an unlikely pop culture icon. Born in New York, 1933, she was one of only nine women in a class of approximately 550 when graduating Harvard Law School, and her subsequent career saw her focus on issues around gender discrimination, disparity and inequality at a time when the all-male Supreme Court was reluctant to address such cases.
The enormously popular collections of Pixar short films now have a third volume, with the animation studio's thirteen most recent shorts available to order in this latest compilation. These include the Oscar®-winning Piper, as well as nominees Sanjay's Super Team and Lou. The other titles in this collection are: Bao, Riley's First Date?, Lava, The Radiator Springs 500 1/2, Party Central, The Blue Umbrella, The Legend of Mor'du, Partysaurus Rex, and two mini-movies, Marine Life Interviews and Miss Fritter's Racing Skoool.
