In 1708, Queen Anne occupies the throne and, due to her ill health, governs the country with the aid of her close friend, Lady Sarah. But with England at war with the French and Queen Anne’s volatile temper, there is much for Lady Sarah to contend with. When a new servant, Abigail – herself from Aristocratic roots – arrives, her charm leads to a close bond developing between her and the queen. With Lady Sarah feeling threatened by this development, she and Abigail attempt to manipulate one another in the ensuing power-struggle for Queen Anne's affections.
