Synopsis

In sympathy for another marginalised group and seeing a common enemy in Margaret Thatcher, in 1984 a group of gay rights activists offered their support to striking miners. Initially rejected by the unions, the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) focused their fundraising and support on a small Welsh mining town and eventually decided to visit the people they’d been supporting. This unlikely true story forms the basis of this warm-hearted, funny film. With terrific performances from its ensemble cast, Pride will leave you feeling galvanised and uplifted.

After the film are two LGBTQ+ related commercials: AIDS - Iceberg, a key advert from the UK’s first major AIDS awareness campaign and AIDS Monolith, an advert narrated by John Hurt for the UK’s first AIDS awareness campaign in the 1980s.

What our educators say

"It really is a chance for us to open children's minds to the power of film not just as a vehicle for entertainment but also as a way in to understanding their own world and the worlds of people whose lives are very different."

- Marlon Perkins, Teacher, Whitstable and Seasalter Endowed CofE Junior School, Kent
