This morning BAFTA announced the nominations for its 2017 awards ceremony, to be held on Sunday 12 February. You can read the full list of nominations here, and we've picked out some of our highlights below, alongside some of the fantastic articles and videos and interviews we've published on those films throughout the year.
The BAFTAs follow the Golden Globes, which took place on Sunday night, and saw La La Land run away as the big winner - in fact winning a record number of awards - while emotional drama Moonlight and Disney hit Zootropolis also triumphed in their respective categories.
All-singing, all-dancing Hollywood throwback La La Land again leads the way as far as nominations are concerned, with 11 nods overall, including Best Film, Leading Actor (Ryan Gosling), Leading Actress (Emma Stone), and Best Director for Damien Chazelle, whose previous film Whiplash was a big hitter at 2015's awards ceremonies.
Also in contention for Best Picture are intimate alien contact movie Arrival (a major film within our Language theme this term); Ken Loach's Palme d'Or-winning I, Daniel Blake; devastating drama Manchester by the Sea; and LGBT coming-of-age phenomenon Moonlight.
In the Outstanding British Film category, the likes of American Honey, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (starring Into Film's very own ambassador, Eddie Redmayne) and I, Daniel Blake will vie for the prize, demonstrating the diversity of talent and ideas on offer from the UK's film industry after another successful year.
Hayley Squires' superb turn in I, Daniel Blake sees her pick up a well-deserved nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category, facing stiff competition from Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea), Viola Davis (Fences), Nicole Kidman (Lion), and another Into Film Ambassador in Naomie Harris (Moonlight). We're also delighted to see British actor Dev Patel - Kidman's co-star in Lion - make it onto the Best Supporting Actor shortlist.
Elsewhere, four of our very favourite films of the year - Zootropolis and Moana (both from Disney), Kubo and the Two Strings (LAIKA) and Finding Dory (Pixar) - are all up for the Animated Film award. The Eagle Huntress, an inspirational film about a young girl breaking into a male-dominated world, is in contention for Best Documentary, while Mustang will compete with titles such as Julieta and Son of Saul for the Film Not in the English Language accolade.
Finally, BAFTA has again recognised both new and emerging talent, both on and off the screen. Some of our favourite British films of the year - The Girl with all the Gifts, The Hard Stop and The Pass - have all had their crew recognised for their efforts in the Outstanding Debut category, whilst Tom Holland - soon to play Spider-Man in a solo outing - is one of five talented young actors who could win the EE Rising Star Award.
You can vote for the BAFTA Rising Star award, and enter a draw to win tickets to the ceremony, here.
Following the BAFTAs, the Academy Awards will take place on Sunday 26 February, with our very own Into Film Awards rounding off the awards season on Tuesday 14 March.
